Founders
_John Bowers, Founder of Unite to Light and a Chair of its
Board of Directors, is the Director for the Institute for Energy
Efficiency (IEE) at the University of California Santa Barbara, head of
the IEE’s Electronics & Photonics Solutions Group, and holds the
Fred Kavli Chair in Nanotechnology. After earning his Ph.D. at Stanford
University, Dr. Bowers worked at AT&T’s Bell Laboratories and
Honeywell before joining the UCSB faculty in 1987. A recipient of the
IEEE LEOS William Streifer Award and the South Coast Business and
Technology Entrepreneur of the Year Award, Dr. Bowers is an elected
member of the IEEE LEOS Board of Governors, a LEOS Distinguished
Lecturer, and Vice President for Conferences for LEOS. He has published
eight book chapters, 450 journal papers, 700 conference papers and has
received 52 patents. He is a member of the National Academy of
Engineering. He and coworkers received the ACE Award for Most Promising
Technology for the hybrid silicon laser in 2007.
Claude Dorais, President of Unite to Light and a member of its Board of Directors, is an attorney with Dorais, McFarland, Grattan & Polinsky, Law Corp., in Santa Barbara. He received his JD in 1974 from the University of California at Davis. As an attorney, Mr. Dorais’ areas of practice encompass insurance regulatory and business law, risk management, and estate planning. He has practiced before the insurance regulatory agencies of 51 U.S. jurisdictions (50 states and the District of Columbia) and is a long-time member of the Federation of Regulatory Counsel. He is also the former co-chair of the Estate Planning Section of the Santa Barbara County Bar Association. |
